The second in the Institute's series of programs
on the intersection of religious belief and modern health care systems
features special guest Tim Loonsfoot Sr. , an Ojibway Pipe Carrier. Mr
Loonsfoot will talk about how the ancient beliefs and
healing practices of Native American people are still extremely
important to traditional native people. The use of tobacco, sage,
cedar oil and other traditional herbs have been part of the spiritual
heritage of native peoples for thousands of years. The vibrations
of the sacred drum and the sounds of sacred chants and songs are often
as important to native people as modern drugs and other protocols.
The sweat lodge has proven efficacy at removing toxins from the body
but just as important to a traditional native person can
be the spiritual effects upon the psyche. These and other issues such
as special needs at the end of life will be discussed in this
interactive workshop.
