Fresh discoveries in our Solar System are arriving almost
every day --
with close-up views of the planets, their many
moons, exotic ring
systems, asteroids, and even a probe impacting a
comet. Surprisingly
large bodies have been found orbiting far
beyond Pluto. one even larger
than Pluto itself. Rocks ejected
from Mars by impacts are being picked
up right here on Earth, while our
rovers on the Martian surface are
finding evidence of past liquid
water. The Cassini spacecraft at
Saturn is orbiting amid its many
moons and rings, and a lander has
revealed the surface of the giant moon,
Titan, You'll find yourself
right in the middle of it all as we
share color slides of the latest
and best images. We'll also
review the detection of over a hundred
planetary systems around neighboring
stars in our Galaxy.
Dr. Eric D.
Carlson is Astronomer Emeritus at The Adler
Planetarium & Astronomical
Museum in Chicago, where he served as Senior
Astronomer for 28
years. He authored scripts for many of the
planetarium's Sky
Shows including "Is There Life On Mars?" and the
perennial "Star of
Bethlehem" and developed a far-ranging program of
astronomy courses for the
general public. He now shares his vision of
the Universe in
frequent color slide programs in Chicago and across the
country and abroad.
