GOOD GRIEF
June 23, 10:00am to 1:00pm
 |
A Grieving Workshop - with Singing
Man [AKA Michael Toahty, Arapaho tribe] |
Yes there is such a thing as "GOOD
GRIEF". In this three hour workshop, Singing Man,
who incorporates Traditional Native Teachings with Western
Therapeutic Techniques, will show you how to look at
separation, divorce, loss, and even death in a more
spiritual way. When we go against the natural flow of
grieving, we go against the flow of the universe and
Creator. Singing Man is a Mental Health Counselor who
has been working in the mental health field for over
twenty years. He is also an elder of the Southern Arapaho
tribe in Oklahoma. There is a natural way to grieve.
In the Native Culture, it is said
we grieve for four seasons. In this series of "GOOD
GRIEF", he will show you how to get through the
four seasons of your loss. He will lead you in dealing
with your particular grief and coming out feeling very
blessed because everything is for a reason. Since before
recorded time, native people have lived with great trauma
on a daily basis. Natives have endured many traumas
inflicted on them by the dominant society and other
tribes. The loss is not any easier in his culture than
any other, he has just been shown how to accept loss
as a natural part of life. Through his faith in Creator,
he has helped others who are grieving about separation,
divorce, illness, and dying. It's not just about human
loss. What about the chemicals we grieve when we become
abstinent? The food we grieve when we start eating healthy?
An unhealthy relationship?
Come prepared to share with others just
like you who are experiencing similar situations. Be
also prepared to laugh, cry, and to feel the pain of
others in similar situations. You will learn to cleanse
your spirit in a traditional way, to relax, meditate,
and to be quiet with yourself. You will walk away feeling
renewed and have pleasure in living again.

THE LANGUAGE OF
SPIRIT
October 6, 10:00am to 1:00pm
The focus of this workshop will be a fire ceremony passed
down from Grandmother Twylah Nitsch of the Seneca Nation
which dates from the 12th century. Through it, we open
our hearts to be receptive to what we need and show our
appreciation for what the Great Mystery has created and
made available to us. Our time together will include song,
teachings and an opportunity for personal prayer. |

WOMEN'S MYSTERIES
November 3, 10:00am to 1:00pm

moontime and the power of women's circles. Bring drums and
rattles if you have them. |
WINTER
SOLSTICE
December 1, 10:00am to 1:00pm
Rituals for welcoming back the sun date from the dawn of
civilization, as communities came together to celebrate
life with feasting, music, dance, drama and, above all,
light and fire. We'll learn about and celebrate the significance
of the winter solstice to ancient cultures and to ours today,
how it helps us connect with the rhythms of the natural
world and brings the sacred into our lives. |
